Music Sales acquires worldwide publishing rights to Vernon Duke catalog

Music Sales Corporation, Inc. announces it has acquired the worldwide publishing rights to Vernon Duke’s catalog, including the Great American Songbook gems “April in Paris”, “Autumn In New York”, and “Taking a Chance on Love” - the latter from the Broadway musical Cabin in the Sky (1940). Known for his integral contributions to the Great American Songbook, Vernon Duke was also a highly respected classical composer - composing for both orchestra and ballet under his birth name, Vladimir Dukelsky. The Russian-born composer collaborated with many musical luminaries including George and Ira Gershwin, George Balanchine, Sergei Prokofiev and Serge Koussevitzky. “We’re very honored to have the opportunity to bring the two worlds of Vernon Duke together under one roof,” said G. Schirmer/AMP/Music Sales President Robert Thompson. “Duke’s contribution to the Great American Songbook is legendary, and the depth of his compositional output … from popular songs, musicals, orchestral works and ballets … is remarkable. I’d like to particularly thank Kay Duke Ingalls, widow of Vernon Duke, for her invaluable guidance and expertise.” Hear Billie Holiday performing Vernon Duke's "Autumn in New York" below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=NO2Ij1eO-GQ

Ludovico Einaudi shares the making of ‘Elegy For The Arctic'

One year after creating ‘Elegy for the Arctic,’ Ludovico Einaudi shares the making of his iconic collaboration with Greenpeace. This behind-the-scenes glimpse shows the tremendous effort and care that was taken in creating the video short that affected 4.5 million viewers with its powerful, simple message, and how filming did not entirely go to plan. The footage below shows just how candid ‘Elegy for the Arctic’ was and further drives awareness to the global crisis both Einaudi and Greenpeace strive to convey. Greenpeace reflects on the newly-released footage:"The silence broken by the noise of the glacier as it fell off. Some notes torn from a grand piano floating in a sea of ice. Thus began the shocking video with which master Ludovico Einaudi put the soundtrack to the campaign to save the Arctic. It was recorded in Svalbard, in the Norwegian Arctic, just a year ago and managed to bring the thawing problem closer to millions of people around the world. It was not easy to do, but the result was worth it. Discover how one of the most magical moments was built in this campaign that seeks to protect one of the most threatened corners of the planet and on which we all depend." Einaudi shares his own sentiments: "One year ago I played “Elegy for the Arctic” in support to the campaign for a marine sanctuary in the North Pole’s international waters; One year has passed, “Save the Arctic” is still a global priority. We still need your support." For more information, visit Greenpeace.org and Ludovico Einaudi’s website. Photo by Pedro Armestre) https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=IUMog65A-nM

Philip Glass Remixes by Kummerspeck

Philip Glass is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of his generation, having a repertoire spanning film, TV, theatre, opera, dance, orchestras and solo works. He has amassed over 100 soundtrack credits to his name, including “The Hours”, “Notes On A Scandal”, “The Truman Show” and “Fantastic Four”. His work has netted him a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, along with three Academy Award nominations. Glass has now had some of his most renowned compositions remixed by Kummerspeck on his latest release “Cinematix”. Taking inspiration from his realisation that much of today’s film, TV and advertising music has been inspired by Glass’ works, Kummerspeck came up with the idea to play Glass’ original sheet music with electronic instruments, thereby giving his works a fresh, cinematic sound while staying true to the original works. The result is a collection of riveting, epic tracks that are genuine rather than derivative and perfect for trailers & promos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BNnfYJiJsU

New chamber opera by Louise Alenius

The world premiere of a work that invites the audience into a dysfunctional family. A grippingly hushed affair awaits when Silent Zone – Louise Alenius’s newly composed chamber opera – invites the audience into a dysfunctional family. A taboo-ridden event has robbed the daughter of the house of her language, prompting her brother to investigate the past on their shared behalf. Louise wrote her libretto after gathering statements from people who have had abuse up-close – and know how difficult it is to break a taboo once it’s settled in the walls, in the family, in the body.
